Project Nemo Launches at IFGS

Monday 15th April 2024, The Guildhall – London.

On this day was the official launch of Project Nemo as part of Innovate Finance’s 10th year anniversary.

Within the historic walls of The Guildhall, IFGS 2024 focused on the future of FinTech and shaping the next decade. Their 10-year anniversary prompted reflection on the legacy of the coming years. Project Nemo believes that now is the right time for the FinTech industry to drive significant transformation in disability inclusion, making it an integral part of future changes to create a more accessible world for future generations.

Joanne Dewar joined Chris Skinner, a Lifetime Achievement Award Winner from the Payments Association and one of the most influential people in FinTech, on the IFGS stage to promote disability inclusion in the FinTech industry.

Chris and Joanne discussed how Project Nemo stemmed from conversations about the frustration of the disabled community’s lack of accessibility and inclusion. Joanne, motivated by this, emphasized that disability should not be overlooked in diversity discussions, especially considering that 24% of the UK population falls into that demographic. The responses to Project Nemo often involve individuals sharing personal stories, highlighting the importance of addressing disability inclusion in the workplace rather than treating it as something to be ignored.

The discussion shifted to our upcoming ‘FinTech Festival of Inclusion’ and how Project Nemo will conduct workshops to educate industry professionals on enhancing accessibility. Project Nemo will also offer resources to connect them with disability inclusion experts, facilitating meaningful change in businesses and society.

With the website going live, official announcement of the initiative upon such a prominent platform, and a busy team behind the scenes who were finally getting to see the culmination of their passion and hard work materialise, Project Nemo was finally born!

So far, the team has met with tremendous support for the cause and the wide media coverage has given Project Nemo a great start.  As news of Project Nemo spreads following its launch, the support, and inquiries about how businesses can get involved have been significant. This growing interest suggests that the industry is poised to make the necessary changes to support an accessible and inclusive future.
