Mind Unbound: Kaye’s Story

Kaye suffered a brain bleed 5 years ago which required complex surgery and
resulted in her becoming permanently disabled, including paralysis, visual problems, memory issues, photosensitivity and intense pain across her face.

In this film she talks about having to now rely on her husband to do many things she would have previously done herself, including simple tasks such as paying a bill or navigating a website. Kaye explains that simple changes to banking websites, such as having a dark mode option, offering non-flashing visuals and compatibility with speech detect software would make all the difference in terms of how long it takes her to complete a task and not being in pain.

She has subsequently become a website design accessibility specialist, helping
organisations to become more inclusive.

Liesbeth Newman of The Marillac Neurological Care Centre explains that 5 million
people in the UK are living with a cognitive disability. She talks about invisible
cognitive disabilities such as memory loss, processing delay or attention deficit.
