Josh’s Story: Blind Ambition

Josh was born two months premature and diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity, leaving him with very limited vision. As a teenager, he woke up one day, thinking there had been a power cut, only to realise he had lost his sight completely. But that didn’t stop Josh from pursuing his dreams – he went on to achieve a physics degree, play for the Blind England cricket team and become a senior consultant for Deloitte.

The film explores Josh’s journey of showing the world what’s possible and breaking boundaries. However, one boundary that he still faces is navigating banking apps. Imagine, trying to transfer money from your banking app but the buttons show jumbled letters or trying to use facial recognition but you can’t see where to hold the camera – this is what he has to navigate, yet this can be fixed if only inclusion is a priority.

Featuring powerful moments of determination and hope, alongside perspectives from the Royal National institute of Blind People, and Josh’s manager at Deloitte, the film is a call to action to FinTechs to prioritise inclusion and accessibility for the blind community. As Josh says – inclusion isn’t about charity, it’s about equality.
